Sixty Pieces to Be Given Away

I’ll be giving away sixty pieces of art at the Pay It Forward show from July 22 – August 21st at the CAL Gallery, located at 300 Main Street in Half Moon Bay CA.

The show, conceived of by Lainey Saint-Marie, is meant to show us how we artists are all connected to one another.  Giving away these pieces is the perfect way to pay it forward.

The art pieces will be wrapped in brown paper so that the recipient is surprised by the contents. They are asked to send a postcard enclosed in the art back to me to let me know where the art landed, geographically. Art from this project has gone as far as Bretagne, France.

STATEMENT: I am a mixed media artist specializing in assemblage, monotypes, and collage. I love any art that involves paper. I’m especially fond of books — making, de-constructing, augmenting, painting on, and make my own sketchbook journals using vintage book covers.

PAYING IT FORWARD: My goal is always to connect artists to one another: To promote the work of local artists, and provide opportunities for people of all ages to develop art skills. I am currently the San Mateo County Arts Commissioner for District 3, and am a former board member of Art in Action (Menlo Park). I started a group for artists called Bad Art Night that meets twice a month to offer a place to take artistic risks, and also established the Half Moon Bay Artist Residency Program that allows visiting artists to be influenced by the Half Moon Bay community and geography. I’ve been an active committee member for the Colony of Coastside Artists’ (CoCA) Open Studios events in 2012-2014. I volunteered for the Half Moon Bay Doctor’s Without Borders Art Fundraiser organizing committee in 2012 and 2013, and am an active member of the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee’s Made on the Coast Emerging Artist Program.
